George Orwell's notorious character "Big Brother" will actually turn out to be Big Banker; all-seeing, all-knowing, all-controlling, capable of destroying any resistance.....Where they're taking you is to a totally different kind of economic society in which you will have little or no privacy, in which your income and everything you own will be under their control....You will be a profitable, dependable, fiscally sound, paid up citizen even if they have to destroy your freedom and even your life to do it.
Relevant to Galanoy's "Big Banker" as "all-knowing, all-seeing" and that "you will have little or no privacy," perhaps a first step in that direction will be taken when the Federal Reserve Board proposes that domestic and foreign banking organizations develop "Know Your Customer" programs. As proposed (posted in the Federal register, December 1, 1998),
the regulations would require each banking organization to develop a program designed to determine the true identity of it's customers; determine it's customers' sources of funds; determine, understand, and monitor the normal and expected transactions of it's customers; and report appropriately any transactions of it's customers that are determined to be unusual or suspicious....
October 1, 1997: The U.S. federal government begins operating a directory of all people hired for any full-time, or part-time job in the U.S. All employers are required every three months to report all employees' wages. According to a front page article in the New York Times, the directory will not only include one's income, but also the amount of one's assets and debts....
