Hillary Clinton to Be Offered Dignified Exit Sunday 01 June 2008 The Telegraph UK Obama offers to buy out Mrs. Clinton's $11 million dollar campaign debt and offer her Cabinet post or leadership in healthcare revolution. Also in line for cabinet posts are Joe Biden and John Edwards. Obama likes Abe Lincoln's idea of offering presidential campaign opponents spots in government to take advantage of all talent available and unite the party. They are calling it a "negotiated surrender," and a "dignified exit" from the campaign. They are getting nervous about her presence and the time element as well as the issue of unity. Experienced figures in Obama's camp revealed to Democrat colleagues that they will offer Mrs. Clinton a cabinet post as health secretary or a leadership position to steer new Health care legislation through the Senate as a central element of their peace overtures to her, however, they stopped short of asking her to become the Vice Presidential candidate. Delegates will probably be awarded in proportion with the votes cast, but in only half the numbers originally intended, a move that would help Mrs. Clinton save face but would not approach Senator Obama's delegate lead. "Hillary will get a win, but a small win," said a Democrat strategist. Some exploratory contacts with the Clinton campaign have been made already, but there have been no formal talks. Senator Clinton's aides, while acknowledging that she will have to abandon her White House goal, do not feel they are in a position to negotiate on her behalf. "She has not surrendered in her own mind yet and until she does it's very difficult to have these conversations," another strategist related. See full story in link to the UK Telegraph.
