Millions of people have fallen victims to terrorism due to the stubborn attitude of rulers of Pakistan. They have taken a long time in accepting the reality that terrorism is threat to the whole humanity. Now they have been taking the action, but it is too late.::::::::
Sitting in the Emergency Response Unit established by the government of Pakistan I have been hearing the cries of innocent people, who have lost all their belongings in the mad war on terrorism. They have lost their homes and at the moment they have been living in the refugee camps. I think there must be someone within the establishment, who can rightly be held responsible for this catastrophe. He must be identified and punished. I know the pain of all those who have been losing their near and dear ones in this mad war on terrorism. If the rulers of Pakistan accepted this fact some eight years ago that terrorism exists in Pakistan then there will be no death and destruction on such large-scale. I know the pain of internally displaced people as I have also lost my home in the fighting between terrorists and security forces.
Today I saw great terror in Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province and tribal areas. The people have been accepting more terror acts. Terrorists have carried out several terror attacks last night. The whole city is in the grip of terror and fear. Now the whole people including the rulers have been crying for peace, but no one knows how the peace can be restored. If you have an idea for restoration of peace in Pakistan and other parts of the world please share it with us.
There is a change in the attitude of the government, most of the political parties and the various law-enforcement and intelligence agencies. The change is that finally the scales seem to have fallen from their eyes and, to double the metaphor, the gloves have come off. Hitherto there has been an obvious reticence to take on some of the terrorist and extremists that threaten all of us. The reasons for this are – were – many and complex; ranging from those who saw the terrorists as somehow 'on our side' to those who understood them only in the context of them being a tool in the hand of external forces.
There are several indicators that allow us to make the deduction that something really has changed. One of them is the arrest in Islamabad of a man said to be a senior Taliban commander, who was picked up whilst being taken from the house of a cleric prominent in the Lal Masjid movement to another safe house. The car he was travelling in was being driven by a former FATA parliamentarian – a man who might have expected a degree of immunity in all but the most recent past. Such men are not strangers come amongst us to fight some proxy battle on behalf of foreign powers. They are our own people who, for whatever reason, have gone down a path that leads them away from the principles that our state was founded upon. Now is the time for us all, every man woman and child who has an investment in the stability and prosperity of Pakistan, to stand four-square against them, for they are the evil that darkens all our lives.
