When Rudy Guiliani was confronted with the evidence that he had hidden the expense of the cost to the taxpayers of his entourage on his trips to see his girlfriend, he at first said that it wasn't true. Then, even though he says it wasn't true, he goes on to explain that what didn't happen was inconsequential. This is just normal, everyday, Republican finagling of the books to soak the taxpayers for personal gain.
His explanation doesn't hold water. If its not true and didn't happen, then it can't be inconsequential because it didn't happen. If its inconsequential, it had to happen to be inconsequential. Can't have it both ways, Rudy.
Rudy's corruption actually is inconsequential when compared to the stars of Republicanism. It only amounts to a few tens of thousands of dollars. Nothing, compared to the millions and billions of corruption pulled off by the most respected and successful Republicans, George Bush and Dick Cheney. Cheney is receiving a salary from the company he started a war for, got no-bid contracts for and that has looted the treasury of untold billions. Rudy's corruption is small potatoes compared to the martyrs to the cause of Republicanism, Jack Abramoff and Duke Cunningham, whose corruption ran into the millions.
But, though small in dollars, Rudy's corruption contains the seed of Republican greatness. It is a start in the right direction. Its an indicator that will line up the Republicans solidly behind him. Its guaranteed to endear him in the hearts of Republicans for keeping faith with Republican tradition. It puts him way ahead of his wimpy rivals who have not been found out, yet, to have done anything that even comes close to Rudy's devotion to Republican principles of lying, obscuring, deceiving, denial, dishonesty, cronyism, corruption and using and manipulating the system for personal gain, at the expense of, preferably, non-Republicans.
Now that Rudy has shown his ability to tell boldfaced lies with ease, conviction and obvious contradiction, divert public funds for his personal use and claim his innocence as his God-given right to corruption as a Republican, the Republicans are so proud of him they could just bust.
They're saying, "We've got to get this guy in the White House to further the cause of Republicans living a life of unlimited luxury at taxpayer expense. None of the other Republicans running for President can even come close to showing true Republicanism as Rudy has with this sordid affair. He's handled it beautifully in the tradition of Bush and Cheney, who say, I know I'm lying, you know I'm lying. So what? I'm a Republican and don't you forget it."
Republicans can rest easy, now. They have a representative who will not flinch at the opportunity for honesty, integrity and serving the interests of the people. He will abandon and abstain from those Republican heresies every time. They've found their man.
