I'll be in Washington DC the next few days.::::::::
The Supreme Court building, in the dark.
Seems a bit ironic, but perhaps the best
way to portray an institution that is so
far out of whack. I took the pic last night,
walking to my hotel from Union station.
Today, I'm speaking, with one of OEN's managing Editors, Joan Brunwasser, at International Association of Whistleblowers meeting. Joan and I will be on a media panel discussing how to make the most of the media to make things happen-- to make change happen, to be effective as a writer/activist.
That's such a major part of what I and the editorial team at Opednews.com envision the site is all about- People ask, "are you unbiased in your reporting?" Well, the answer is yes and no. We're not going to mislead, but we report from a progressive point of view. In that respect, I believe that almost all media have some bias. When CNN or Fox allow a politician to make a distorted or inaccurate claim, without questioning or challenging it, that's helping to perpetrate the lie, the message the distortion or lie is generating. That's media bias.
The whistleblower folks tell us that Opednews.com is THE go-to place for whistleblowers to tell their stories, to get their truths out to a wider audience. We're happy to help because we believe that whistleblowers play an essential role in Democracy. I'm learning that there is a play book used to attack whistleblowers, usually aimed at destroying their credibility and their lives. The two big areas where whistleblowers come from are the Healthcare and Defense industries. Not surprisingly, those two make up about a third of the economy.
One of my sources tells me that the Obama administration has been harder on whistleblowers than all the previous presidents combined. That's pretty screwed up.
So I'm here to do my small part.
