My wife bought a cookbook the other day and hasn't stopped talking about it yet. I've been eating the most scrumptious food in South Carolina for the last few weeks. The book is called "Grandmother's Cookbook". It comes from the recipes of Elizabeth Von Hohen and is written and illustrated by Carrie Gamble. Ms. Gamble hails from Doylestown, Pa. The watercolors alone are worth the price of the cookbook. Her Grandmother was a native of Bucks County Pa. The recipe's contain a mixture of good old fashioned hearty food imported from Germany, with just a hint of Old Time Pennsylvania.Tonight my wonderful wife baked two loaves of "Crusty French Bread" that was delicious. It was almost like eating pastry as I put that steaming piece of bread in my mouth straight from the oven. Some of the baked goods she has made this week alone make my mouth water just thinking about them. She made two "Sunburst Chiffon Cakes" that would have made Martha Stewart green with envy. We ate the first with ice cream. She made a Boston Cream Pie with the other one, mmm....
She cooked up a Hungarian Peasant Meal tonight. It was chilly tonight and it hit the spot. It was made from red potatoes, cottage cheese some sour cream and chopped scallions. It made a great side dish for the Rouladen she prepared for the main course. This was a great little find and it's sure to delight the taste buds of discerning gourmets. My wife is the only woman that can read a cook book nestled on the couch the way other people read a novel. She has already promised me Hungarian Goulash. I told her that just for kicks and to do a complete review, we should try to finish all of the baked goods recipes as soon as possible.
If you would like to see this cookbook and some of the watercolors, go to WWW.Grandmotherscookbook.com. Take my word for it, your taste buds will thank you!
