The paragraph below was removed from my 6/29/08 comment at http://www.opednews.com/maxwrite/diarypage.php?did=7933 - "Yes, Barack is not Our "Jesus," ... But Is He Even Dick DURBIN?":BTW, I do not include my diagnosis from 1991 of bipolar disorder in my bio here or at MoreLife.org but I've written a number of times about it - even during my last manic episode in Sept-Oct 2003. (A search at the MoreLife Yahoo archives yields at least 20 messages where I and/or husband Paul Wakfer have made reference to my bipolar diagnosis or manic episodes. Several refer to entries I've made at Kitty Reflects on MoreLife about these same experiences.) I do not consider myself a victim of bipolar disorder, but rather someone who simply has a neurochemical sensitivity to an accumulation of certain stressors, mostly lack of restful sleep. I currently take lithium 150 mg every other day, not only for its mania inhibiting effects but also for its more recently found evidence of CNS protection (PMID 18250315, PMID 18367867). Paul takes the same dose of lithium for this last reason - it is just part of our extensive health maintenance life-expansion/extension program.
The Flag note at the top of my comment [removed as of 12 noon 6/30/08, leaving Brian's response even more strange] reads:
Comment is flagged and has been reviewed by the editors -
Reason: Ad hominem
Editor's Message: Please dump the bipolar part and keep the rest. You can do a separate article about this issue, and we would welcome that.
[The following several lines should show black, but I have repeatedly been unsucessful in getting that to occur] My paragraph shown above was deleted by the editors leaving Brian's repsonse to me as truly strange in its heightened agitation against imagined advice or even some sort of attack...?!?
Somehow the editors - and definitely Brian Moore - have interpreted my revelation about myself as some sort of criticism of Brian. It was merely an aside prompted by part of the comments Ron Kall had made in his email of 6/29/08 - "Brian discloses, in his bio, that he is mentally ill. He writes with strange bolding, unusual characters, a lot of capitalization-- kind of manic." In fact, I would never have read Brian's diary entry had it not been for Ron's comment - I felt a slight connection since I have used just such writing enhancements during the height of manic episodes. And I was therefore curious.... If what Brian had written had contained no statements of value to me and therefore not worth my time in response, I would not have made a comment at all.
So I ask the editors - what did I write above that is an ad hominem, as defined in Merriam- Webster?
1 : directed at or appealing to one's hearer's or reader's personal feelings or prejudices rather than his intellect and reason ad hominem argument>
2 : marked by attack on an opponent's character rather than by answer to his contentions ad hominem plea that his accuser had been in jail>
"ad hominem." Webster's Third New International Dictionary, Unabridged. Merriam-Webster, 2002. http://unabridged.merriam-webster.com (30 Jun. 2008).
I think the editors have overreacted to Brian's total misinterpretation of my last comment paragraph.
