Republicans Will Repeal Social SecurityI've always thought of Social Security as part of American life. After a long life of working hard and paying into a retirement system you could look forward to receiving monthly checks when you retire. While it was not enough to live on it was enough to make retirement possible when combined with personal savings and employer-based pension plans. Well, employer-based plans are no longer reliable because of poor management and poor stock market performance. So that makes Social Security all that more important, right? That's what I thought but it seems the Republican Party is determined to repeal Social Security. If you don't believe me just check the Texas Republican Party platform on their web site. You can also hear many of the Republican politicians throw Social Security under the bus along with many other "socialist" programs they would like to repeal like Medicare and Medicaid.
I don't know what my 86 year old mother will do if she loses Social Security and Medicare. The prospect of that happening scares her, and me too. That reason alone is enough to get me to vote Democrat next month.
