It’s clear that the Republican party has been captured by authoritarian extremists and they get their marching orders from Rush Limbaugh and his deputies: Sean Hannity, Glen Beck, Bill O’Reilly and a legion of lesser known local radio talkers.
A recent example of Limbaugh’s influence and power involves Republican Representative Phil Gingrey of Georgia. In a Jan. 27 interview by Politico, Gingrey voiced relatively mild disapproval of some of Limbaugh’s bombastic statements. The next day he was on Limbaugh’s radio show groveling and profusely apologizing for daring to criticize the egomaniacal windbag, who "graciously" accepted the apology and absolved him of his sin.
Two weeks before this Limbaugh said that he hoped President Obama would fail. We’ve recently seen the congressional Republicans in both houses doing everything they could think of to cause the President to fail in his efforts to restore the failed economy to health.
Do you get this? Limbaugh says he wants the President to fail and the Republicans march in lockstep to see that it happens ... regardless of the traumatic effect on people!
Now a word for the President and the spineless congressional Democrats. Forget about bipartisanship - Republicans don’t care about solving problems, particularly when the solution involves ordinary people making less than $100,000 or so. They have determined that they will follow Rush Limbaugh on a treadmill to oblivion.
My advice to the Democrats is to call the Republican’s bluff and let them filibuster all they want, and then try to explain to their constituents why they kept them out of work and on the breadline.
