Reporter Robert Fisk: "Syria and Libya are not similar'

Message cumhur ozkaya

Independent experienced reporter Robert Fisk is asked mostly when something goes wrongly in Middle East. His father was a soldier in World War 2 and he took little Robert to areas where World War 1 realized.

Robert Fisk has been as reporter in Afghanistan-Soviet war, second Iraq War, Sabra and Satilla slaughters, Iran Islamic Revolution. He had met with Osama bin Laden at Afghan mountains.

He talked to anchorman Oguz Haksever from NTV and interview was published from ntvmsnbc.com

Robert Fisk said that that had been talked Syrian government has killed civil citizens before, but now there were armed fighters against government. Fisk asked again that who these were armed men out of army in Syria.

Fisk said, he has learnt that countries where Arabic revolutions realized are not similar from January till today.

"If trouble is getting weak Syria regime, they align Turkey army to Syrian border. But there are armed insurrections. I went to obsequies of some Syrian soldiers. One commander wasn't wearing uniform. I asked why. Commander said coming from Damascus to obsequies by wearing uniform wasn't safety. I have some friends in Damascus and they must fly when they must go somewhere from Damascus because of security. Highways aren't safety.  One government officer woman couldn't go to her mother tombs because of safety" Fisk said.

According to ntvmsnbc.com Fisk said that they have thought government soldiers killed the citizens in Syria but now there were armed rebels against soldiers so who these were fighters? "Someone said rebels were soldiers who have leaved from army. But there are much more fighters and who are these?" Fisk said.

Syrian TV has interviewed with Robert Fisk during a half hour. "I said them time was up. You couldn't baby to Syrian people much more. I said whether they would censor or wouldn't censor interview? But they haven't censored" Fisk said.

Fisk said Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan who said western governments don't care about events in Syria because Syria didn't have patrol has said true. "Erdogan said exactly right. Why world wanted to save from Qaddafi? They don't want Esad to go. They want Esad to go on with a little coalition. Hillary Clinton said Esad must have got out of the way, she hasn't said Esad must have downed" Fisk said.

Fisk talked to some government officers around BeÃ...Ÿar Esad. He asked to them who was powerful in Syria and they said BeÃ...Ÿar Esad was powerful.

"They saw pictures Qaddafi killed. Syria government TV demonstrated these visuals. Syrian officers didn't scare. They said western governments will claim Arabs and Muslims were barbarians by using these visuals and photographs. Yes they are right, this has begun. Syria is very different from Libya. They are not similar" Fisk said.

Fisk asks who these are armed rebels, because there are many rebels. Answer is not clear. But claim is that some Arabic countries and even Turkey support rebels discussed seriously.

I think USA and Europe leaves Syria to Turkey diplomatic and politic tactics. Not Libya and Egypt, because they have patrol, but poor Syria government escrow to Turkish government. But I don't know why Turkey strives on Syria.
