I hope people will read Bob Herbert's article in the Op-Ed section of the NY Times.
Mr Herbert, as always, has a great article today and gets to the heart of the matter with elegant, straightforward accuracy. My applause to him. But beyond kudos, I ask anyone out there to answer this: Where was God when He passed out brains to the American public? PT Barnum noticed the problem. So did . H.L. Mencken who said "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public."
I can't believe we still have upwards of 40 percent, maybe close to 50 percent, of our public that still not only pays credence to GOP policies, but even passionately defends the old failed Reaganomics of 'feed-the-rich-and-rob-the-rest-of-us'. You, Mr. Herbert, are right to be confused by the passivity of this dumbed-down public in the face of continued outrages to our lives, our property and our persons on the par t of an out-of-control oligarchy whose open arrogance and windfall payouts to themselves fly in our faces while we rot in national debt, national homelessness, national joblessness and national bad health. These are the very criminals that engineered our nation's bankruptcy, uber-fat-cats who populate the tiny elite, the upper echelons of our top one percent of families, who reward corporate scammers and selfish Ponzi artists with unbelievable loot while we taxpayers are forced to pay for it.

Yes, this upper 1 percent who disdain us all while having robbed from us an obscene NINETY FIVE PERCENT of our national wealth...having robbed it from all of us who worked and built this country with our own blood, sweat and tears..This upper tier has the outright gall to evince utter disdain for their slaves whom they tax to death, deprive of livelihood and outright and pillage, leaving our entire US population, the rest of us, with a miserable crumb of 5 (five) percent of the national wealth we worked for and created. They didn't. Most of them inherited theirs and/or stole it for the most part via the willing agency of the "best Congress and Chief Executive money can buy."
Incredible! While our infrastructure crumbles, and our nation and people languish, yet these fat cats after a national meltdown and a massive popular protest vote, stil openly stymie reform, brag of their riches and aggressively buy off lawmakers to continue forcing through legislation to rob us who are virtual beggars and serfs in what was once supposed to be our own country. They enforce it all on penalty of prison, to pay for THEIR excesses and mansions while we can't even get basic health care or our next meal.

These fat cats, to top it all, are championed outright by the GOP and under the table by the Democratic party. These two parties are both standard bearers for the plutocratic financial cheats and all their carefully contrived trickle down fairy tales foisted on us for the last 30 years. The GOP even goes so far as to treat the top 1 percent of these robber barons as if THEY alone represented the whole spectrum of American business. As if the wealthy ever created anything, let alone jobs. They pay a measly tiny percentage of their income while pocketing windfall tax cuts and subsidies and stashing their loot in anonymous accounts in Switzerland and elsewhere. The rich and their lackeys proceed to grind their cigarettes out in the eyes of the poor calling the programs our low income people depend on for life support...calling them "entitlements" which is a sneering 'diss' to people who may be poor but in their vast majority worked their whole lives or else can't find a job in a wrecked economy...and now they are reviled and denigrated for having nothing other than crumbs to live on. Their poverty is considered to be 'their own fault' because of some supposed 'laziness' or 'opportunism' or 'lack of planning." Yet these very retired, disabled workers are told they have a false sense of 'entitlement' for daring to receive any income from the same government that shells out 95 percent of our nation's income to fat cats.
We who are not rich are "helping ourselves and taking too much of the national income." So the pirates and financial rapists blame those us who have done the work and who paid the national bills for years....blame us calling us "bums" for daring to get a pittance of money most of us have paid INTO THE SOCIAL SECURITY AND TAX SYSTEMS OUR WHOLE LIVES.
The SNEERING PIRATES who wantonly rape our land and blame their victims for our national troubles are incredibly seconded and echoed by hordes of brain-dead neocon bloggers, right wing pundits and Republican party hacks-slash-apparatchiks (sic).
Yes, Virginia, we get the shaft and years of debt and are called names, get dispossesed from our houses, our jobs, our health, our children (killed in wars we didn't ask for)...suffer, get lied to and told it is all "good for business" (guffaw--good for nothing) by these very"overlords of luxury" who steal and create NO jobs but get away with it all legally.
SUCH A DEAL we average people get. Such an intelligent group we are when half of our moronic public defends the very oppressors who oppress them too, but they and turn on their brethren and denigrate them who are co-victims. Amazingly evil and stupid both.
