As a new contributor I will keep this brief and to the point. This is not a long-winded dissertation on my political views nor a revelation of some new wrinkle in the democratic process. It is simply my idea of the beginnings of a solution.
Don't re elect anyone. Swap each and every elected official out for who ever is running against them without regard to their political affiliation.
My thinking is this; Politicians are, by and large, in deep debt to their contributors who have pored many millions of dollars into their coffers to buy their seat in congress or in the Oval Office. So far money well spent by those who have it to spend. Not so good for the rest of us who actually drift into the polls to give our votes away to un-deserving politicians who will forget us until the next election.
The only say any of us meager middle class Americans has is our vote and we are selling it to the highest bidder.
There is a classic definition of what constitutes insanity that says insanity is, "Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results".
We are in the grip of political insanity and as long as we keep putting the same people back in office, the insanity will only continue. Today's political process is only a filter to insure the most insane rise to the top.
The logic to my idea is that we use our only tool to remove the insane from office. While it is true the replacements will initially be as insane as their predecessors, the filter of our votes will eventually lead to a better government. The corrupt politics will yield when big money is left with short term investments. Repeat the process again next election.
A message would be sent that those in office must return to their obligation and oath to protect all Americans and our constitution and not just the wealthy and powerful. The message, Pay attention or you too will be out of work in public office.
We, as American's have one means of revolt. Use the vote we are given wisely.
Use the mute when a politician appears on TV. Bill Maher once said that “...a politician, while running for office cannot tell the truth.”
Read and teach your children because our schools won't. It is your country to either let slide into the abyss or to take back for your own.
