Thought I would share with you a letter I sent to a Texas news publication with regard to their coverage of contamination of Iraq’s environment resulting from US use of Depleted Uranium munitions. As you will see, Iraq’s not the only thing they’ve fried.
Dear Star-Telegram Editor,
Three cheers and a hearty Hip Hip HOOORAY to Star-Telegram.com, for going where few other publications dare venture! By this, I am referring to your February 23 IRAQ REPORT At a glance in which you referenced the US military's dirty business of contaminating Iraq's environment with its toxic, radioactive Uranium munitions.
As grateful as I am for the mention, unfortunately, Iraq is only part of the picture. For how can we discuss Iraq and Depleted Uranium without also mentioning the grossly devastated, radioactive Afghanistan? In more than six years of constant military bombardment of US and UK Uranium weapons, one can truly say we’ve effectively “nuked” Afghanistan – Big-time and Forevermore.
The US military has used Uranium weapons since at least 1991 in Iraq and starting in 2001 in Afghanistan. In the process of destroying these two countries, contamination has also impacted the environments of 20 other countries within a 1,000 mile radius of military dispersal of the ceramic Uranium oxide aerosol – courtesy of radioactive US/UK weapons, bombs, and missiles.
In the future, if you are looking for further outrageous news stories? Once you run more coverage on the eternally “hot” and bombed-out nations of Iraq and Afghanistan? My next suggestion for a future piece involves the related matter of the domestic poisoning of the land, people, and beasts (animal and national leaders both) that call Texas home.
Certainly all Texans, regardless of their stance on these illegal wars, might find it more than uh, eye-opening to learn about the indisputable health and environment-destroying effects of the Depleted Uranium that’s been fired, burned, and exploded outdoors in at least 22 federal sites within the US President’s very own native state.
How many people even know that both the heavy metal’s chemically toxicity and radioactive properties of invisible Uranium particles fired from military weapons create actual damage to various organs of the body, including the brain? Scientific research has indeed shown that the human brain is a target for Uranium aerosol. These tiny particles are able to enter the blood-brain barrier after exposure to repeated inhalation in its aerosolized form, resulting in behavioral changes. I’ve provided resources below for your review.
With regard to Depleted Uranium and brain functioning inside the Lone Star State? Some believe the radioactivity and heavy metal poisoning caused by human-caused Uranium contamination in Texas’ environment may very well account for the undeniably sociopathic, homicidal behavior of one conspicuously war-loving politico residing in an expansive white mansion in Washington, DC.
Now certainly we are not going to ask be able to get the most powerful of all world rulers to pee in a cup so the Uranium Medical Research Center can do a urinalysis for us. We can, however, use simple observational skills to conclude that at least one brain in Texas hell-bent (not to mention hell-bound) on waging murderous nuclear wars without end is more than a tad organically-challenged up in that heavily ethol-pickled gray matter!
Depleted Uranium, with a radioactive half-life of 4.5 Billion years, is nothing you want being used in your home state, that’s for sure! In fact, one could even wager a bet that most typically conservative, traditionally loyal Texans would be up in arms to learn that the same ballistic Uranium poison gas used in the Middle East on the so-called “enemy” has also been used “liberally” in their very own state!
If you think about it, it’s really a well-kept national secret that the US military has played with Depleted Uranium out in the wide open Texas spaces for decades. Wouldn’t it be only natural to assume a substantial number of normally patriotic people really, really would not exactly appreciate finding out that they, too, are the victims of nuclear material poisons in the air they breathe, the water they drink, and the soils that produce the plant and animal foods they give their young’uns to eat?
Not only have the fire-breathing monsters in control in that funny five-sided building down the road from the Head-Brush-Cutter-In-Chief permanently contaminated the Middle East with their very special “gift” of Radioactivity Everlasting, but in the process of gearing up for these wars? The real bad news (and a major Bummer at that) is the no good varmints have simultaneously gone ahead and poisoned America, too!
What do you think health-conscious Americans might do if they were made to realize that, in fact, there is no area of the US that has not received at least an unhealthy “dose” of radiation as a result of this genocidal Psychopathocracy* in control? Do you reckon there’d be an instantaneous run on hunting rifles in certain normally law-abiding circles?
While we’re on the topic of genocide - foreign and domestic both - can you tell me precisely how one even begins to count the Uranium weapons-related casualties surrounding the 22 Uranium-contaminated federal sites in Texas? As Editor, have you by chance yet considered featuring any articles about sick Texans living around your state’s military bases and Uranium weapons “test” sites?
In summary, I thank you for mentioning the Depleted Uranium contamination of Iraq. Again, I encourage you to provide additional coverage on the poisoned victims of both Iraq and Afghanistan, “the other war.” In addition, I ask that you also please consider including coverage of the contamination of our own country, of our own people, starting in your soon-to-be-not soooo hospitable state of Texas.
I hope you will become a media pioneer and extensively cover this typically news-censored issue. For what the media almost never carries are the very types of articles readers need to read the most. These include stories involving environmental and public health consequences of radioactive activities carried out by our own universities, by federal sites run by the Departments of Defense [sic] and [Nuclear] Energy, as well as by private entities involved in mining, research, processing, testing, manufacture, transport, storage, destruction and disposal of Uranium on behalf of our nuke-happy government for well over sixty years.
I have great hope that the Star-Telegram will lead the way for other independent news publications interested in getting out the word about these weapons that are depleted only in the truth told about their life-destroying properties.
Indeed, Americans and the rest of the world deserve absolutely nothing less than the truth about these lethal, toxic and radioactive munitions that are eternally poisoning our citizens’ and future descendents’ health and ruining the environment in which billions of years of future generations of Americans and all other living things will try to live.
Best,
Cathy Garger
