Three weeks I waited for this new political site, financed by big money. Was it worth the wait? Read this...

::::::::

Early last month on CBS's Face The Nation, Bob Schieffer had a group of young reporters from major newspapers and various other media venues from the MSM. They were going to start a new and "cutting edge" type of internet experience that was going to be "All politics, all the time". These young journalists were going to bring us the "Story behind the story" in a way that only a website with a new direction could do. The way they touted this new site, I wrote to some people and said that it look as if there was going to be a new kid on the block, with the same face as we have, but with the financial backing of CBS. Wow! That sure could be a force to be reckoned with! Could you just imagine OpEdNews.com on a multi-million dollar budget? It would be OpEdNews on Steroids!

When the time came near for this debut, I was more than a little unnerved. I might not have a monetary stake (well if my donations count I guess I do) in OpEdNews, but I have a great deal of loyalty to this site. Still, I wanted to see these young people with bucks in their pocket take on the MSM and produce a new wave of journalism. I could always say if OpEdNews was blown off the Web that I was at the ground floor of the "New" journalism in the first website that gave everyday people the opportunity to reach tens of thousands of politically minded progressives and people of other political persuasions. I was waiting for the next generation of political website.

Oh well. Sometimes the anticipation is better than the reality. I had wanted it to blow my socks off. It didn't. I don't want to say bad things about any site, especially something as new as Politico.com. It turned out to be about politics, they didn't lie about that. It's just that I could have gotten the same type of articles by reading the newspaper, or going to MSNBC.com. In fact, if they had portrayed it as MSCBS.COM, they would have been closer to the truth. It might be all about politics, but it's all about being part of the MSM too, and that makes the difference between good and ho-hum.
