I just got off the phone with an aide in Pelosi's office in Washington, DC. Asked him if he was aware of an item circulating on the internet to the effect that the Speaker would put impeachment on the table if she got 10,000 handwritten letters demanding as much.
The aide told me the report was baseless, and that Pelosi hadn't uttered any such thing. He said he was aware of the report, and he said people on the staff were aware of it, but he wouldn't say that Pelosi was aware of it.
I asked whether the Speaker would count the letters that came in, since this report was circulating rather widely. He said he didn't know about that, but he assured me that every letter gets opened and read by somebody. He didn't give any good reason not to send Pelosi a handwritten letter, so there's no reason to feel stupid for having sent one. In fact, now might be a good time to send one.
