My pathetic sniveling and general observations on the election, and the phenomenon we call 'news'.

::::::::

If you read or listen to or watch or surf 'the news' much, you can kind of see that a lot of problems are manifesting themselves, nationwide. You've got some bona-fide agitators out there, but not a lot of people that seem like they've genuinely got the patience to actually sit down and read Ye Olde Constitution, there. Sounds like a lot of distracted, overstimulated people.

There's a concept of resonance, that I wonder if it couldn't be addressed by the news media itself. Now, the truth comes out, but I think there's also a case to be made for at least making a good-faith effort to keep things kind of calm, and professional.

In my view, the wonderful world of television(and cinema too, I suspect) is at least a partial accomplice in the general events of 9/11. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but we mere mortals also more or less have what amounts to a 'baud rate', which I don't think has been successfully evaluated. Unless. Unless. Unless the INTENT in some of the news reporting was to deliberately agitate.

I think it's possible to be thorough in your reporting, by sticking to the who, what, when, where, why, and prevent outside influences or pressures from manipulating you, or the quality of your reporting. I think the Army is a really good model for this, keeping things calm, collected, factual, and accurate, and not just letting things become a Jerry Springer spinoff/advertising bed.

Ah, advertising. That Which Pays The Bills. I've discovered a rough connection between some of the greasier advertising out there(YOU know who you are, no names), and later news reports of people stuffing Large Sums Of Money in their pockets, later on. Maybe I'm stoned, maybe there's something there, I don't know, I'm pretty sure I'm sober. Anyway, suffice it to say that part of my discontent with the general state of the world today lies with television. I think it's a failed/failing format, and the only way they're going to get er done is to go back through, and seek to improve on it, make it s'more like described above, maybe. The internet is a better source, overall, you can conduct comparative analysis of any given story, access multiple sources, which can sometimes help you glean out any little discrepancies in a given news story. I think it was really telling when they crashed those news helicopters in hot pursuit of a police chase. People get entirely too wrapped up in the televised coverage, I don't think that news reporters were ever supposed to be shock troops, but that's kind of what it's worked out to, I believe, soldiers for 'shock and awe' etc. I find that development to be somewhat unsettling, and suspicious, because anytime a given institution or entity seems to be putting 'extra' effort into their version of events, my antennae go up.

Money makes the world go 'round, sure, but it also tends to propel 'sunshine stories', I think, and without being COMPLETELY cynical, as a long-time reader, first-time direct critic, I Vunder Ver Gunter Wendt. I was Gunter work to improve the coverage, but I got distracted by a Large Suitcase Full Of Money, etc.

That's the blessing of webnews, darn sight cheaper, and a little more honest, I believe. But, not always, and not always free of bias, either, by a long shot.

I'll pick on one 'news' site I've kind of been reading for a while, www.whatreallyhappened.com This website isn't exactly 'I hate america', more like 'the other side of the coin', which I think is really cool. Save one small detail. The page background bears these Interesting Colors. What's in a name...I question everything, anymore, which I think is really the 'job' of the final 'news' consumer, not to readily accept any wooden nickels, and there's a cascade of those darn things flying around anymore. Bush himself rhetorically asked, 'what IS truth'?, but failed to elaborate. He also said, 'we are addicted to oil', which I think is pretty cool. Doesn't get him off the hook, though.;)

I'm pro-reform, pro-Paul, can't vote for him, 'cause I'm not registered Republican. I think he's got good views, but I hope that whoever wins the job this time around is straight-up honest, and has a similar opinion on the wooden nickels etc.
