Heroes are people recognized for their selfless actions in saving someone's life or standing up against the mainstream for what's right at great personal cost to themselves. Heroes commit acts that benefit individuals and society. These acts are almost always one-time events of relatively short duration. Risk your life to save another and you are undoubtedly a hero.
But, what about those of us who go through life, every day, all day long, committing heroic acts of omission that leaves millions of Republicans to continue aiding and abetting George Bush's crimes? What about those of us who allow these loyal Bushies to go about their lives as they are helping George Bush destroy the United States? What about those of us who, at every encounter with them, practice the monumental restraint required to abide by the law and refrain from acting on the quite natural and overwhelming urge to strangle the sonuvabitches?
Our continuous heroism has gone unrecognized. So, I'm declaring every day from now on Hero's Day for all of us who have not strangled a Republican today.
