The events of November 2nd are going to be felt painfully for some time to come, but we don't have to take it sitting down. It's time to organize!

::::::::

Now that the election is over, and the disastrous consequences are being felt from the Atlantic to the Pacific, it is time to get our fighting shoes on and get to work saving our nation. To that end, the editorial team at OEN is interested in developing a grass roots organizing element to the OEN website that provides a variety of information on organizing, running for office, and preparing for the difficult days ahead.

This is not the time to brood over the toxic and catastrophic failure of leadership at the top of the Democratic
Party, we have no time to lose if we are going to reclaim our country from the fascist elements of corporate America and their Republican toadies that seek to strip us of our freedom and make us little more than cogs in the greed machine. In Minnesota, where I am from, the death of Paul Wellstone was a simultaneous kidney punch and blow to the solar plexus that our state Democratic party has still not recovered from.

This election must not have the same effect as that terrible day in October, 2002.

There is a silver lining, which we must be ready to capitalize on.

The events of November 2nd purged scores of right wing Democrats from Congress and from State Legislatures around the country. This is an opportunity to fill that void with a progressive message, and progressive candidates, to counter the alternate reality, magical land rhetorical nonsense that flows from the Right with no end in sight.

This will be a grass roots participatory effort, not imposed upon the good readers of OEN. It is open to all activists and candidates who are ready to get back into the fight for the very survival of our country and our increasingly fragile democracy.

Let us know what you think, and what this effort could look like. There are some truly dark days ahead, but we cannot afford to sit idly by.

As Paul Wellstone used to say, "Its time to organize, organize, organize!!"

I am a lifelong progressive activist working for a better future. This has included work to create head of household green jobs, strengthening education, from pre-K to Higher Education, enactment of a single payer health insurance system, and (more...)
