Dear Ted:
It made me cry to read your eulogies in the papers today. But, how many get to read their eulogy while alive? To get so much Universal Love delivered - even from the GOP!
My recommendations:
1.) Resign soon to cause a special election. This way you can choose your successor and indorse him/her! Had Clinton resigned even in July 2000, Gore would have been an incumbent.
2.) Leave the resignation date open until you feel you can get back to D.C. to cast a last vote on your last day on a BIG "Kennedy Bill." Go on, pick a bill - no, not National Health. Something that even your opponents can live with, and won't be objectionable from a fiscal standpoint. They are going to give it to you.
3.) Have your secretary and staff begin planning this now. You'll need your doctor, family, and hopefully 100 senators and 435 congressmen, for a joint session. Get well enough to make it over to Arlington to the JFK eternal flame and maybe either the Lincoln Memorial or the Reflection Pool where you can meet a throng from the public for one last, dynamic speech.
I'd say, "God Bless You," but He already has.
