I don't know Marcy Winograd. But I do know people, hurt feelings and the traits of solid, dependable character.
Solid, dependable people of good character don't volunteer for campaigns, they dedicate themselves to the success of their candidate's campaign. Sometimes that means realizing that sometimes the good is the enemy of the best. It also means that if you legitimately believe you have been sleighted, you follow the example of the wise people who have come before you.
Joe Wilson, when it became clear that his country's leaders were doing wrong, worked the back-channels to the best of his ability. Like all of us, he was incredulous that his sage advice had been overlooked. It was hard to believe, much less accept. But in the business of large organizations, it is best to fault on the side of restraint than to go after every rustling leaf as if it were the Antichrist.
Yes, it made HIM look like a dumbass to come out after the toothpaste was out of the tube. A seasoned diplomat ALWAYS puts his country's interests ahead of his own. I thought he should have skewered these jackasses before we put boots on the ground in Iraq...there was simply no way that this particular ship of fools was ever going to slow down from the Viet Nam model they were attempting to resurrect to set aright. But I wasn't the seasoned career diplomat with the spooky, freaky pregnant wife who was chasing down Skooter Libby's uranium business deals and coming up with inexplicable goose-eggs at every turn. Joe Wilson was. That he came forward at all speaks to his patriotism, his courage and the courage of his wife.
An aside about lipsticks and gorillas needs to be inserted here.
Like it or not, Hillary's threats and the state of our current government require that every delegate be fully and carefully vetted so that the only folks who hit the convention floor are Joe Wilson juniors.
Take a deep breath, folks. Our country, our heritage and our standing in the world have been GRIEVOUSLY assaulted by treasonists who were given the keys to the kingdom. Part of owning that despicable state of affairs is realizing that we ALL have to suck it up and be willing to take a bullet for our country.
And I do mean a REAL bullet as in, the REAL threat of another Civil War. No other country on this planet is going to respect us or our squandered moral authority unless we all reach deep inside our guts and start behaving like a well regulated militia.
I'd give Marcy another shot at the title because this is a learning process and nothing in our experience has prepared us for the demands of a serious revolution. Or steering our country away from the massive bloodshed for which we have been steered.
However Marcy -- and every potential California delegate -- needs to be able to burn into their brain that their work is more important than their petty egoes or even their own lives.
This one is for keeps. Screw this one up and it may be Katrina-like devastation in every major city in this country.
