I do not recall during Obama's sudden and mysterious rise to power and fame that his fundamental policy was bipartisanship. But judging by his performance bipartisanship is far more important than change, progressive values, meaningful reform and just about every other thing for which Obama claimed to stand.
Obama's emphasis on bipartisanship has basically destroyed any possibility of reasonable reform coming from his administration. Worse, his abandonment of progressive issues and support for Bush's policies underscores his true idealism; cash and power.
But does Obama really care about bipartisanship? No. He cares about the interests of his corporate sponsors. Bipartisanship is just a cover for stalling on progressive issues. This thinly veiled hoax is just another in an eternally long line of Democratic sellouts. It assures Democrats that they will be able to feed at the trough of corporate and lobbyist contributions so they can keep their jobs and health insurance policies.
Being bipartisan in today's political climate is not only absurd, its self-defeating. But then that is what the Democrats are best at doing, defeating themselves. And this fall will prove that fact once again. For those Democrats who survive as a minority in Congress they will all breath a great sigh of relief. No longer will they have to make excuses for their pitiful corporate voting records. They will be able to vote against the Republicans and continue to fake their phony allegiance to progressive values without actually having to pay the price and stand up and fight for what is right. Its all so easy and plain to see. The king has no clothes. When the Republicans had a much smaller majority they were able to pass sweeping legislation that undermined the very nature of our democracy, if we can even call it that any more. Bills were passed under the Republican regime at the speed of light. Literally hundreds of pro corporate bills were passed in a very short period of time that have apparently permanently altered the very foundations of our style of government and rendered meaningless our Constitution.
Under the flag of bipartisanship Obama has sold out everyone who voted for him and simultaneously created an apparently decent cover. Had progressives known that bipartisanship would be the new call for right wing reform I am certain Obama would not have been elected. But Obama sold out and was selected by the shadow government because he could fool progressives long enough to get elected and then would behave just the way the oligarchs wanted. Along with the Wall Street fiasco, the Obama bipartisanship will go down in history as one of the greatest lies and rip-offs of the American people. The result is a disillusioned left wing who will probably not have the energy to get off their keesters and vote this fall, thus assuring a return to a Republican controlled Congress when bipartisanship will be thrown under the bus and fascism will return to the highest seat of power within our failing democracy.
Thank you Obama for standing up for bipartisanship. After all, its more important that stopping the war, restoring habeas corpus, ending illegal eavesdropping, health care, jobs, honesty, the environment, and all those other nuisance ideals of the left wing. Most of all Obama's legacy will be bipartisanship. He is truly bi
