police brutality by Google Images
I was extremely impressed with the "occupiers" behavior, shown in the video in this link (~6 minutes).
"The demonstrators were protesting the dismantling of the "Occupy UC Davis" encampment that was set up in the school's quad area. Police came and brutalized them and tore their tents down and all that stuff. It was really scary. It felt like there was anarchy everywhere," said student Hisham Alihbob."

The police, acting like little children in a temper tantrum, heavily armed and wearing protective gear, were tamed and properly isolated by the students, acting as the adults they clearly are--even after being pepper sprayed. I believe it is a perfect model for behavior of OWS folks everywhere (i.e., you and me).
While I can certainly relate to our evolutionary instincts to "kick ass," indeed to pull a gun and use it in situations of this sort, this short clip shows the enormous power of behaving with maturity--the maturity we clearly must rise to if our species is to continue.
Twenty years in education and I never needed or wanted to "spank" a kid (of course, I would have made the headlines if I did); it IS possible to think and act at a higher level.* You can "spank" in other ways than physical, as this video so vividly demonstrates. Kudos to whoever did the filming, and to all the occupiers of their own campus.
*Every rule has exceptions: I spanked a child once, the third time he kept running into the street, circa age 3 (family member). I use a shock collar on our Goldendoodle, but only rarely send a fraction of a second shock. I will fight like a lunatic if someone physically attacks me or one of my loved ones.
