In defiance of the our Portland Mayor's midnight Occupy camp ban, thousands of citizens turned up, and protected the camp with their bodies, despite a horse-mounted assault by riot police.
It was inspiring to see young men and women put their bodies in front of horses, despite repeated attempt to trample and back over them. Our occupy Portland patriots, peacefully and by sheer numbers, pushed back the police, and moved into the streets, creating a protective human shield around the camp, From midnight to six in the morning, they held their ground, despite rain and cold, and a ring of riot and motorcycle police, as well as the horses and patrol cars.
.
It was an inspiring and joyous six hours. The celebratory energy, young and old, was incredible.
In the morning, Occupy Portland dismantled the camp, but on their own terms. They had made the point. We are not afraid. We will not quit.
I can only refer to Francis Scott Key's "The Star Spangled Banner":
O! say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O! say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
The corporate media, of course, continues to degrade and diminish the Occupy movement. The media will fail. Occupy is peaceful and it will succeed.
