Mrs. M needs a little help“After successfully overcoming some of the most terrifying events imaginable, an Iraqi widow faces another battle. Mrs. M and her seven children traveled to the United States in 2005 under Special Public Benefit Parole — a rare status reserved only for those who have made great contributions to the government of the United States. She was a recent widow at the time, after her husband was shot to death by insurgents who discovered he was helping the Americans and coalition forces.
Fast forward nearly four years, and you'll find a happy, well-adjusted family in North Dakota. Since being granted asylum status, Mrs. M has been employed in the community and her children — ranging in age from 4 to 17 — have excelled in school. They eagerly learned English, joined local soccer teams and the oldest has recently earned his drivers license.
