In an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Mike Bloomberg tried to make the point that there is no connection between the economic downturn and the recent spike in gun crime.
We will have the lowest murder rate since the records were starting to be kept in 1963. And that's true of virtually all crime in New York City. This "park bench wisdom," as I call it, that there is a correlation between the economy and the amount of violence in our society just isn't true.
I don't know how to break this to you, but people that go out and murder people don't read The Wall Street Journal.

Sixty-five MPs earn rental income from property while claiming second home allowance, it has emerged. All together, they have claimed almost £6m since 2001. Most of the MPs own three properties, while some own many. Tory MP James Clappison has 22 rented houses. UN condemns N. Korea rocket launch, Rice chalks up first victory
The 15-nation UN Security Council unanimously adopted a statement noting that the launch a week ago was in contravention of an earlier resolution and demanded that no further launches take place.
It took a while -- and no small bit of cajoling of the Russians and Chinese -- but a compromise was eventually fashioned by agreeing to issue to a "statement" rather than a "resolution."
“The U.S. is very pleased that the Security Council today issued a strong, unanimous statement clearly and unequivocally condemning the launch,” U.S. Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice said after the deal was reached. (Politico)
