Facts are not adding up. Facts are changing. Propaganda is flying around the world two and three times before anyone hears a word of critical analysis.
What is definitely becoming clear is that Mumbai had been under terrorist alert, thanks to the work of its now-assassinated terrorism chief. The alert came down one week prior to the assault and Mumbai's now dead and dubiously astute anti-terrorism chief was ambushed -- not shot during a counter-terror operation at one of the hotels or the train station as had been reported -- and shot in the chest a number of times.
This vignette is eerily reminiscient of Roland Carnaby's assassination in Houston, Texas by what appears to have been a Mossad-inspired operation. Carnaby had been doing his job admirably prior to his questionable murder by Houston Police officers who been given ambiguous, if not patently false, information from federal agencies.
The big winner in all this confusion is, not surprisingly, the far right wing of the Indian government, it's BJP. And elections in India are coming soon. Alot of hay will be made of these attacks in Mumbai prior to these elections, so all stories coming out of South Asia blaming Pakistan for the Mumbai attacks are to be analyzed especially critically.
The characterization that these attacks were to be India's "9/11" is probably accurate in that it was, and IS, an attempt to strengthen a right-wing junta element into India's government. Just as the 9/11 attacks in the US were designed to buttress the neo-conservative, right wing elements within the US.
The difference between Mumbai and New York, however, is that India is filled with highly educated, intellectually rigorous bloggers, cast in the crucible of an intensely competitive culture.
The US was, and is, somewhat less fortunate. The relative prosperity brought to the US viz. Bill Clinton's presidency appears to have served neo-conservative interests, after all.
Remember this as American battle cruisers move closer and closer towards the area and Israel sounds the drumbeats of war.
