MoveOn, Democracy for America, and other "progressive" groups allied with Obama and the Dems have been sending out emails in support of a STRONG public option -- strong enough to include some benefits of single-payer.

::::::::

Mainstream ("moderate") progressive groups like MoveOn and Democracy for America are supporting a (strong) public option via mailings like the one below. Though they're not insisting on a "single payer" plan, they DO insist on a "strong" public option which is REAL: Right Away, covers Everyone, Accountable, and Large enough to lower costs. This seems like a good first step towards single payer. And yet, is it good enough? The mailings tend to support President Obama's efforts while also calling for a strong public option.

Dear MoveOn member,

Health care reform is at risk in the Senate. Conservative Democrats and Republicans in the Senate are escalating their efforts to delay action on health care1-an age-old trick to kill reform.

We need to respond quickly to show Congress that Americans stand with President Obama on this: we need real health care reform, and we need it now.

So MoveOn members in Bellevue are coming together for a R.E.A.L. Public Option Day of Action this Thursday, July 23rd-to make sure Sen. Murray knows we can't have real reform without a R.E.A.L. public health insurance option-right now.

Can you make it? Click here to RSVP,,,

A R.E.A.L. public health insurance option is critical to help lower costs and expand health care coverage across America. To be effective, the public option should meet the following criteria:

Right away: Every day we wait on real reform, health care costs continue to rise. A strong public health insurance option right out of the gate is key. Proposals that would delay implementation for years-like the so-called "trigger"-would undermine the public option's potential to help control costs and provide widespread care. Everyone: A strong public health insurance option should be broadly available, and a core piece of an overall reform plan that will help guarantee access to quality health care for everyone in America. Accountable: To ensure it's held to the highest standards, a public health insurance option must be publicly accountable and transparent to Congress and to voters. Large enough to lower costs: In order to truly control costs, a public health insurance option must be available nationwide with a broad network of providers so that it is competitive and able to bargain on a level playing field with private plans. The real public health insurance option is the key to real health care reform and it has overwhelming popular support from the American people. But it will only become a reality if Sen. Murray hears our voices-and prevents it from being delayed or watered down.

Click here to RSVP for a day of action near you ....

Thanks for all you do,

Nita, Ilya, Wes, Marika and the rest of the team
