One reader pointed out that opensecrets includes donations from employees who give more than $200, not just the bigwigs or the PAC. You can also check the PACs to see how they stack up. Most follow the entire companies' patterns. For instance, Wal-Mart's PAC gave 78 percent to Republicans. Pacs from Target, Sears, McDonald's, Wendy's, and others also gave more to reps.
One that didn't follow how the company donated was Shell, whose PAC gave more to reps. But since every other oil company's employees gave more to reps, Shell would be the lesser of the evils. Or buy a hybrid.
