There are so many reasons to be grateful when you can have a new business that can actually help others while at the same time putting some new ideas out there about the new publishing paradigm.

::::::::

I have never been one to want to leading a pack or fronting an organization. For one thing, I felt that I did not know enough to do that and for another, perhaps my temperament is not always the best to be at the front of the crowd, being the face of that crowd. But of late, having been on the road enough, having talked to as many people as I possibly can, and will continue to do, there is something that happens when I discuss the Itinerant Book Show with whoever happens to be in that line of fire.
I would say that the reactions have ranged from ones of quite sincere interest to almost unexpected relief.
The relief stems from the fact that someone beside themself actually believes there is a problem and has a solution. We do not believe that our ideas are the end of the game or the total solution to the problem of what has gone wrong with corporate publishing as we have come to know it. What we do believe is we have a solution that by the way we work it and see its benefits, can grow, and expand and offer work right now to people who would love to be at work doing what they love to do--talk about books, share books they love and make some money at it.
As this process of moving out the program continues and we try to attract as many people as possible to our ranks, we want to make some very important points and most likely will need to make them often because sometimes people just cannot believe that this is something they can do and make some money at as well.
The most inspiring part of going on the road to talk to people who come to the Itinerant Book Show is that we are building community. This kind of program allows lots of people we may never have known any other way to know about us, Sullivan Street Press, as well as all the other authors we represent in the tour.
Were it not for this opportunity to get ourselves included into some of the towns I visit, there would not also be this added feature--people in those towns getting to have an outsider hear their concerns.
Anyone who finds the open road inviting would love working like this. Anyone who wants to get to know the area better in which they live would love getting to do these shows.
Today, I am just grateful to have this program to talk about without trying to push anyone to join us, just to express how much I love doing it and how grateful I am to be able to do it.
