Michael Moore just released an email to his network of subscribers detailing the great victory over the Wall Street bailout yesterday in the House. He was quick to criticize Republicans and forgive Democrats on the vote even though more Republicans voted against the bailout than Democrats.
What Moore didn't come to terms with is that the man he is backing for President, Barack Obama, is one of the bailout's prime supporters. Indeed, the entire leadership of both dominant parties (including McCain) is behind the Wall Street swindle. Moore, way back in 2000, supported Ralph Nader for president. He should again, for Nader has denounced this bailout from the start and has helped organize resistance to it. Nader denounced the repeal of the Glass-Steagall act in 1999 (Clinton could have vetoed the repeal) which gutted many regulations that could have prevented the current bank panic.
It's sad to watch Moore channel himself into the narrow ditch of the Democratic party. He's capable of real rebellion. Maybe he will live up to his own legacy again someday soon.
