"Must have the Precious...!"

Several have recently compared John McCain's quest for the presidency to the creature Gollum's quest for "the Precious" (the Ring of Power) in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. In this strange shot from his final presidential debate with Barack Obama, McCain looks indeed like Gollum in quest of "the Precious," casting Barack Obama in the role of hobbit-hero Frodo Baggins. As McGollum attempts to take the Ring of Power from Frodobama, our hero knows that he must destroy it by casting it into the very fires from which it was forged.
