The highly cynical, but nearly believable, motive to explain why Hillary is staying in the race has been circulating around the blog-world for a few weeks now. The idea is that after Obama loses the general election because of the damage being done by Cilnton's continued campaigning, the "I told you so" door will be open for her in 2012.
Even more horrifying might be that after she is finally no longer able to fight, that is after the inevitable nomination of Obama, she runs with McCain on a "bi-partisan" Republican-Democrat ticket with McCain. The DLC Clintons have been closer to Republicans all along, so this would be less of a stretch than moving to the left with Obama.
And She could then run as an incumbant in 2012.
