This is a good day to start.

::::::::

I know many here at OEN think that there are so many articles from other publications that they feel are SO important they must write one sentence, then link the article and post it in the Number One Op-Ed column.

Although the articles may either be of importance or of interest, what they actually do is obliterate the importance of the articles and opinions written by, researched and worked on for upwards of two or three hours by OEN’s own writers.

It is nothing more than showing utter disrespect for OEN writers.

A piece will be buried almost immediately unless it is among the lucky few that get main headlined or a top of column position.

Many of us have given up on writing time-consuming, thoughtful pieces only to have them immediately buried in the queue by non-bylined articles from other publication.

If those un-bylined pieces are so important, write you own opinion and put a URL link as a reference at the bottom of your thoughtful, hard-worked-on piece.

I know this will not be applauded or win me any Brownie points by those who instituted this “bury-’em” policy.

In response, they can easily say, if you don’t like the policy, get lost!

Rather than do that, I’ve opted not to write long pieces and opted for writing short diaries, which don’t suffer an immediate death sentence by being shoved down the queue by un-bylined pieces.

If I wanted that kind of disrespect of being buried, overlooked or ignored, all I have to do is email my writings to my children.

Please think twice before posting a “linked only” piece in the Op-Ed number one column; those articles belong in the General News or Life-Arts-Science columns.
