Dear Steven,
As your Member of Congress, I am focused on strengthening our economy and ensuring our national security. Both goals came into focus last week at a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee.
The hearing was the first chance for my colleagues and me to hear from our new Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and the newly-confirmed Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey. The two leaders discussed the potential impact that deficit-reduction proposals would have on our military and the Department of Defense. They also talked about defense priorities, specifically citing submarines manufactured right here in eastern Connecticut as a critical element of our nation's security priorities today and well into the future. During the hearing, I noted the role that three attack submarines played in initial operations in Libya and asked the secretary for his views on the role of the submarine fleet in the post-9/11 era. Panetta replied that "I've always considered our submarine fleet to be an essential part of our forward presence projection" and that submarine capabilities are "absolutely essential to our defense in the future."
Gen. Dempsey echoed those sentiments when asked about our SSBN fleet, calling it "indispensable."
Indispensability in action
On Friday, the comments by Sec. Panetta and Gen. Dempsey were followed by good news from the Navy: a new $430 million contract for Electric Boat (EB) for design, planning and technical support for the Navy's fleet of nuclear submarines.
According to EB, the contract will sustain between 800 and 1,000 jobs here in Connecticut. EB has repeatedly demonstrated that they can do the work asked of them on time and without costly overruns. That is why the Navy continues to turn to them to handle its most indispensable projects. This is positive news for EB, our local economy and our region.

I had contacted US Congressman Joe Courtney's office about the Connecticut State Police targeting rental property owners, small business owners, contractors, and the self-employed who are not organized crime, police, lawyer, and/or Connecticut rigged court connected. I asked if a letter could be written in my behalf to the Connecticut Governor. The State Police targeted me for prison because I spent 100's of thousands of dollars obtaining and fixing up boarded up rental properties, years of hard labor repairing them, and because I was a contractor and landlord according to a Connecticut State Police Sgt. State Police committed perjury, 4 of them, at my rigged trial saying I never tried to make a police complaint against the felon police informant who attempted to mug me on my property. So, I got a year in prison for resisting being mugged on my own property losing family, my credit, my home, everything. Connecticut State Police threatened my life, put me on their enemies list, distributed my picture, and went as far as enforcing a "no dating" policy on me and a Joe Courtney staffer wants me to now go to the State Police to get fingerprinted to start the paperwork to get a pardon. I don't thinks so Joe staffer.
If you think your money is wisely spent vote for the incumbent in your district and don't consider voting for an independent or non-major party candidate.
