In her introduction of Mitt Romney, Laura Ingraham self-righteously declared that liberty requires limited government. I guess it depends on your definition of “limited government.” Where was Ingraham, when the Bush Administration gutted the Bill of Rights? Where were she and the other disgruntled “conservatives” when Bush declared for himself the power to declare anyone an “enemy combatant,” thereby stripping them of all rights, including the right to counsel? Where were they when the centuries-old habeas corpus was abandoned? Where have they been on the issue of warrantless wire-tapping, and immunity for companies that were complicit in its execution? And how does defense of water boarding and other methods of torture fit in with the concept of liberty? And how is the cause of liberty furthered by elections that are determined by machines whose codes are proprietary, or by the Republican Part policy of caging? These “conservatives” that Ingraham represents need to be honest about what they’re really fighting for. They don’t want liberty. They just want power.
