Our children watch each and every move we make and the media continually reports. For this reason, our children must learn from the mistakes we make as adults and the corrective action that follows.

Dear President Bush and Attorney General Gonzales:

Based on the criminal and public court courts records now available since the clergy sex abuse crisis erupted in 2002, it is with sadness that the failures to protect children and vulnerable adults from sex abuse crimes committed by employees of religious institutions and/or the politically-connected, continues as one of your lowest priorities.  In addition, Whistleblower protections for mandated reporters and employees in public, government and religious forums must be enforced without exceptions.

When I learned that President Bush had granted immunity to the Vatican and Pope Benedict for the approximate 100,000 sex crimes that destroyed children and families for many years, it was devastating. Although my children were not sexually abused by an employee of a religious institution, with trust and faith, they attended Catholic schools where repeated sex offenders were employed and transferred, without corrective action.

This week’s news regarding Attorney Alberto Gonzales potential involvement in the cover up of sex crimes committed by pedophiles employed by the Texas Youth Commission, is beyond comprehension.

In my opinion, your public acts have forced hundreds of thousands of sex abuse victims and their families to endure painful vicarious traumatization, without resources.  In addition, as elected public officials, your refusals to respect the protections of God’s most precious gift, our children, and the civil rights of all Americans, free from political, religious and government influences, requires immediate CORRECTIVE ACTION.

Please issue a public apology to ALL victims of sex abuse crimes, their families and the people of the United States of America.  Our children our watching each and every move we make and must learn from the mistakes we make as adults and the corrective action that follows.

Without justice there will never be peace.  Without peace our country's laws and faith are empty.
