Re: Clergy Sex Abuse - Protections of Children - California's 2003 Sex Abuse Law
Dear Messrs. O'Reilly, Hannity, Colmes & Fox News:
Fox News has played a key role in bringing the need for nationwide corrective legislation to the public's attention. Jessica's Law is just one example and there is still much work to be done to ensure that all children and those who protect them as mandated reporters, are safe. May you be blessed for the contributions made thus far.
Last week, the LA Times reported on a controversial subject relating to the clergy sex abuse crisis and Mental Reservation Church Doctrine. In my opinion, those who have used Mental Reservation Church Doctrine to justify failures to report sex crimes committed against children by employees of religious institutions and/or the politically-connected, have acted as Enablers to this horrific clergy sex abuse crisis. Accountability and corrective action must be demanded. Enabling sex crimes against any and all persons must be stopped!
Victims of clergy sex abuse and their families have been fighting alone for many years -- up against dirty politics and self-serving prophecies. Legislation similar to California's 2003 Sex Abuse Law is desperately needed nationwide. The following opinion published at http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_debby_bo_070331_clergy_sex_abuse__26_s.htm will explain the serious need to stop the Enabling in our society, without political spin!
As a Catholic wife, mother and advocate for clergy sex abuse victims, their families and mandated reporters, California's 2003 Sex Abuse Law returned justice to victims and families. Civil and criminal court records are now available for public review. Victims of clergy sex abuse have had to fight against political forces for many years, without resources.
Courageous victims and their families speak out so other precious lives will be safe from abuses -- thanks to the "Hidden Blessings" of freedoms of speech, press, opinion and the courageous voices of the wounded in our society. However, fighting the political, government and religious influences without corrective legislation, is like the David vs. Goliath scenario.
Please assist in bringing the facts relating to the clergy sex abuse crisis, Enablers (past and today)and corrective legislation similar to California's 2003 Sex Abuse Law, to the public's attention. Without justice there will never be peace. Without peace, faith and our country's laws are empty.
