When I see young people dressing strangely, smoking excessively and hanging around late at night on a weekday, I wonder who is going to lead this world and lead these big governments and corporations in the future.

::::::::

What is happening to family values and spirit? What happened to good parenting , good sons and good daughters? Where have gone the good neighbors and friends? Why  many more people now are seen alone in cars, malls and restaurants ?The world is changing and people are getting less social and more conservative when it comes to meeting others or socializing with them.

Why more people are involved in shoplifting and stealing whenever they can even if they are not poor? Why in a rich city, the moment a power blackout takes place, vandalism and stealing starts almost immediately? The world attention focuses are mainly on politics, conflicts and trade.  Little attention is paid to the danger of declining values of the young generation and the excessive reliance on materialistic values of life.

 The selfishness among many individuals has reached unprecedented levels and the social and community life is gradually replaced by individualism.  I hope I will not live to see individualized coffee shops, bars and restaurants where every one is given a cage where he can not see or bee seen.

People now trust each other less than before and tolerance is at low levels as people are now easily provoked by any statement even it is said in good faith. . As a result of this selfishness and crave for materialistic values than gaining personal happiness in balanced life style, we are seeing more people confused,  imbalanced and deranged,  making unfortunate attacks on innocent people in schools, shopping centers and coffee shops.  This is the price, or the premium if you may, the society has to pay for neglecting good parenting, family values and excessive selfishness.

Each one of us played a role in getting the young generations to such an irresponsible life style. By being selfish or arrogant or not giving attention and time to young people listening to them and staying in touch, we have played such a role. When I see some young people dressing strangely, smoking excessively and hanging around late at night on a weekday, I wonder who is going to lead this world and lead these big governments and corporations in the future.

Is it going to get worse or better?  One might say when looking at the graduation list of major universities that the future is bright and better.  However, these graduates may have been taught everything from calculating GNP to solving complex equations or writing software.  But not much on social values, tolerance and respect for other cultures and the importance of co-existence.  Secondly, on a world-wide basis the number of poorly raised, poorly educated, jobless young people is much higher than those who make it to the college.

 The real danger facing the world, in my opinion, is not only wars or climate change, but the growing social and mental disorder among many young people.  The real shortage that threatens the world now is not to run out of energy resources or clean air, but to run out of well-parented, looked-after and respected educated young people
