In my 10/2/06 article regarding Rice and Foley, I got a few facts wrong regarding the fallout from the Pearl Harbor attacks with regard to Admiral Kimmel and General Short. I consider myself a bit of a World War II Historian, but in the case of these officers, I knew enought to be dangerous. I checked the facts on another website that itself had erroneous information and a minor catastrophe was born.A member of Admiral Kimmel's family promptly emailed me and provided me the true facts surrounding his ancestor's case. It is an ugly thing to realize you have rubbed salt in the long standing deep wounds of families like the Kimmels and Shorts, no matter that the injury was accidental.
I have since fixed the article, posted a comment apologizing to the families and I have also attempted to assist their cause by emailing several Democratic Senators and congresspeople to see if I could enlist them in the cause of completely exonerating the two officers. I sincerely hope that this happens. In the meantime, I'm trying to figure out how to extricate this keyboard from my piehole.
