Did anyone start the year thinking the big problem with health care was that the health insurance industry didn't have enough money? Apparently only the executives of the health insurance companies, and of course their paid employees in the House and the Senate. And of course, the one constant feature of every Democratic plan dating back to the primaries is that there is going to be a mandate that everyone has to buy health insurance. Yeah, that's what we needed. It might be what the executives of the health insurance industry wanted, but its not what anyone else wants.
In fact, that's been the constant feature of this entire awful process. The interests of the health insurance companies are paramount and untouchable. The one thing about this entire process that has always been predictable is that the health insurance companies would make more money off of whatever bill gets passed.
In this case, if you look at who wins and who loses, they are basically stealing $400 billion from medicare, ie from health care for the elderly, and instead just handing that money over to the health insurance companies as a gift in the form of tax credits Who outside the executive offices of the health insurance companies thought the companies that deny you care deserved more tax credits?
There might not be any public option at all. If there is, its likely to cost more than what the unaffordable policies cost today. The bits of the bill that sound decent, like ending pre-existing conditions all seem to have long 'phase-in' periods. Every little detail like this in the bill tilts towards the health insurance companies.
Its time to say NO! Its time for the American people to rise up and scream NO! at the top of their lungs. Call your Senators and Representatives, and tell them that this sucks! Do not be polite about! Remember, these people supposedly work for you. When you cal, take the attitude of a pissed off and angry boss at an incompetent employee who has just royally screwed up everything. Let them know you are mad! Let them know you have completely had it with a Congress that serves the health insurance companies and screws over the rest of us.
house.gov and senate.gov will tell you all you need to know about who you should contact.
Tell Congress to stop! Do not pass an awful bill! Stop, start over, and try again. Except this time, we need single payer on the table, and the lobbyists from the health insurance companies locked out of the room.
If there's only one phone call, Congress will of course ignore you. The general rule that if you don't have a 5 figure donation, then go away -- will apply.
Not if their phone lines are ringing off the hooks with angry, upset people who have had enough. Not if their phone lines and offices are full of angry people who are there to demand that their representatives actually represent them instead of the interests of the health insurance industry.
Its hard to find anyone outside of Washington who actually really likes any of these bills. Its time for all of us to join together and send an angry shout of NO! towards Washington that is so loud, so united, and so obviously completely pissed off that the ground shakes beneath the Congress and they realize that they've finally gone too far.
