::::::::
Over the past few days I have been working the marketing end of my now "relatively" new blog and my online travels have taken me to many blog and podcast directory sites.
What I discovered in my search for the proper category to place my blog/podcast in is that I have made a switch from identifying myself as a "liberal" to thinking of myself as more of a "progressive". There was a time when I would have not hesitated and just picked the "liberal" category and moved on. This round of marketing found me not wanting to choose the "liberal" category and instead the category that I really wanted was more aptly defined as "progressive". Great. Except that only one of the many directories I visited had a category of the particular persuasion I was seeking. Political bloggers are no doubt familiar with the basic flavors of the political blog spectrum:
Conservative
Moderate
These basic flavors assume a right, a left and a middle road.
Having to choose between this triad left me feeling a bit misunderstood.
Conservative. And mind you, I am talking about "Social Conservatives" here, are pretty one dimensional. I don't mean to sound harsh but their stock and trade is in seeing many things in only one way. Black and white. Anyone with eyes to see can tell you the Universe is just not that way. How can you manage to not be a hypocrite when you see the world that way?
Liberal. Adding in all the colors of the Universe makes this category a little more hard to define. At the extreme end of liberalism it would be an anything goes kind of world. The world is not like that either.
Moderate. Maybe this could be the best of both conservative and liberal but all too often it seems to be the place where many go to sit upon their fences and watch the game without a ticket and without taking a stand for what they believe in.
Progressive. A place where I keep challenging myself to get off the fence and decide for myself what is true and for the highest good of myself (and in turn...therefore the highest good for my Universal family) based upon what my best self to date can cipher about the meaning and purpose of my life. And then live it.
I will be petitioning those blog directories to give me my "progressive" category and I will let you know how it goes.
Peace Y'all
