If you have thoughts on this, we'd like to hear from you.
Some questions:
What is hate speech?
Thom Hartmann routinely has right wingers on his show so he can debate them. Is he promoting their viewpoints?
Should opposing points of view be published, as articles or diaries, so that commenters can discuss them and tear them to shreds? Or should they be banned altogether?
addendum. I found this interesting comment on a right wing site offering advice on how conservatives can fight back:
"Stifling dissent by labeling the dissenter a racist, homophobe, meanspirited, etc. is one of the left’s most effective tactics. If anyone tries to discredit you by using these labels, immediately recognize that they’re group-think, useful idiots whose opinions are formed by others. Act accordingly."

We've removed all the comments from public view for a number of reasons. This is a decision the senior editorial team reached after considerable discussion that started this morning.
