While unemployment may have dropped some, this is not a cause for rejoicing. With no plan in place to help this trend continue, no one coming forward to show how jobs can be created efficiently for people all over the country, the need for a job program such as the one at Sullivan Street Press becomes clearer.

::::::::

I wrote a diary entry here yesterday and let many people who should be interested in seeing the formation of jobs know about it. The silence is rather daunting but the efforts to get people to work always are.
People fear lots of things and one of the things they often fear is the good news coming from a stranger. Yet if you are struggling to find a way to make ends meet, then please contact us at Sullivan Street Press.
Our Itinerant Book Show is a way for people who have a passion for books to give that passion a ride down country roads or into the living rooms of old friends. There you can discuss a trunk full of books that you have chosen to sell. You will be creating relationships not just with the people you speak to but with all the publishers and self-published authors you will seek out in order to get their books into readers' hands. You will make money at this, and more than that, you will begin to forge some very important connections with all the people you meet.
Eventually, as this program grows across the country, you will have a community with the others (we call them Bookies) who will share with you their finds and you will share with them the experiences you have had at your events.
In this way a new form of community of the book world will be generated. It can be started in our online community but will go out into the world where from you will be able to present it to the people you meet as you give your Bookie performances.
Tomorrow I will write a longer description of what it has been like for me to do this work and why I love it and why I think anyone who loves books and loves people will also find becoming a Bookie a new way to make a commitment to books as well as a way to make a living.
