To realize that the future for Israel in the region is gloomy even with the highest concessions Israel might give, look at the Arab Land map which stretches from the Gulf east to the Atlantic west and from the Mediterranean in the north to the Equator in the south, with 400 million Arabs, mainly Muslims with one language and one religion.
Could 5 million Israelis survive in the long run in the middle of this ocean of Arabs? Not to mention the 2 million Arabs inside Israel? I have big doubts.
Peace between Israel and the Arab governments might be possible with some pressure her and there and concessions here and there. But peace with the 400 million Arab people is very unlikely. Israel now is a member of the UN and it will be hard for Arab government to overlook that.
However, for the millions of Arab people the establishment of the state of Israel in Palestine in 1948 was a crime committed against the Palestinians which should be reversed. Israel had relations with Egypt and Jordan for more than 2 decades, yet the Egyptians and Jordanians people have the highest levels of boycott-Israel and Israeli products. Peace with Arab governments will not help Israel. Peace with Arab people will..
The least for ordinary Arab people to accept Israel as a reality in the heart of their land is the return of Palestinian and Syrian land taken by Israel by force in 1967, the right of Palestinian refugees forced out of their homes in 1948 and 1967 to return to their homes and villages, a sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem its capital, and the destruction of Israel's nuclear bombs.
The Arab-Israeli conflict was wrongly taken out of the UN to the US State Department to save Israel from more UN resolution. The conflict doesn't need Obama or any one else to resolve. There are UN resolutions (242 and 338) which call for full withdrawal from Arab land taken by force in 1967. If Israel refuses to implement (which it has continued to do for the last 40 years) the world community should do what it did with Saddam when he refused to implement UN resolutions..
The Palestinians, and with them 1.5 billion Muslims who see Jerusalem as their sacred city will have no choice if Israel continues to refuse to listen to the world community but to resist occupation - whether you call it Intifada or Jihad..
