This time in immigration round-ups. Waterloo Iowa, has a new family in town, ICE. Chillingly pre-apocalyptic as white buses roll in from neighboring Postville, once called the most multi-ethnic town (not city) in the country. An agri business that somehow ended up with too many illegal workers, hmmm, so they were moved to..yes a newly devised detention centre made out of a cattle congress facility for county faires, and country singers. If it weren't for the cold hard coverage of US detention treatment covered by the Washington Post and 60 Minutes, read this:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/nation/specials/immigration/index.html and if not for the secretive nature of the incarceration itself, read the local tv pick-up on this:
http://www.kwwl.com/Global/story.asp?S=8313164 well, wouldn't everyone think that, like a just war, there is evil and evil must be stopped, but wait!: wasn't there an alarming similarity here to a carrots and sticks metaphor....come here, come here, your babies will be citizens, and then wham, the stick hits, and ouch, did we misinterpret the employer...we thought they wanted us here, and oops, did we misinterpret the baby angle to the deal...and darn it, we missed our paychecks in this round-up or didn't we?....and oh no, the car they made me buy from them will just be sitting there, and what will happen to it...and where is my baby???
bottom line, there is more than meets the eye here in the place which was once called heaven. we just can't see what it is....
