September 13, 2008 Ike makes landfall at Galveston. What does it mean? Hurricane Ike came ashore directly over the city of Galveston at 2:10 a.m. This will bring the largest storm surge inland well up the Texas coast, possibly saving some of the Clear Lake area and parts of Galveston County from significant flooding.

It's currently 3 a.m. down there. I'm afraid that what we're going to be seeing once daylight comes will be vast devistaion of the Galveston area. This is a huge catastrophe, no doubt about it. Warnings were issued much too late. Nearly 40% of the residents in the lower Galveston area are fighting for their lives right now.
