Ike makes landfall at Galveston. What does it mean?
Hurricane Ike came ashore directly over the city of Galveston at 2:10 a.m.
This will bring the largest storm surge inland well up the Texas coast, possibly saving some of the Clear Lake area and parts of Galveston County from significant flooding.::::::::

It's currently 3 a.m. down there. I'm afraid that what we're going to be seeing once daylight comes will be vast devistaion of the Galveston area. This is a huge catastrophe, no doubt about it. Warnings were issued much too late. Nearly 40% of the residents in the lower Galveston area are fighting for their lives right now.
