lawyers and lawsuits are probably the single biggest problem with the US medical system

::::::::

I have been an MD for 10 years now and as of this moment in time I have had exactly ZERO malpractice suits filed against me. That said I know it is merely a matter of time before it happens. Anyway I guess my main point is that I believe that so many doctors practice 'Cover Your Ass' (CYA) medicine that they forget about the main goal of being a doctor i.e. helping their patients to get better. Doctors order all sorts of unnecessary tests that they know the patients don't need because there is that one in a million chance the patient might have this or that 'zebra'. And since nobody wants to get sued it leads to a cluster fuck of bullshit. I would say that probably 10% or less of the tests ordered are actually necessary. I am just as guilty as the rest bc I have no desire to get sued either. So I say if universal healthcare is coupled with an inability to sue (with rare exceptions) then I say BRING IT ON!

PS yes we doctors DO make too much money and so I would say 50% pay cut would be reasonable.
