So, I am using a camera that takes those thin, smart media cards. The camera suddenly doesn't recognize the 64MB memory card. Get on the Internet and find out that EDGE memory cards are distributed from Ada, Oklahoma. So I email them. I don't have a Macintosh program to find corrupted media card information. They said, go for it and send the card in.
So I did, expecting little luck. When it comes back, they send me a new Flash Media Card, which I can use and a CD with tons of pictures. Some of them are 3 years old, and I had deleted all my pictures, after I upload pictures to the hard drive, I always delete them. Was I surprised? Yes, ... kind of.
When I was using my wonderful Model 4P, I had programs that could rescue information from 5.25 disks and used it a lot. Since I had or have a high res board on it, I found deleted pictures. Deleting emails simply means that the first digit, was changed from 1 to 0, and the space was now available for use.
And, these bozos accidentally deleted emails. Get real. Find out today, that it is a felony to delete or shred documents from and to The White House. Goes back to Nixon and the 18 minutes. And for the rich people or people who have important business transactions on a dead drive, there are high priced businesses that will gladly ressurect information from a dead drive.
The rule of thumb in the education business is, one copy on the computer, one backup in the safe. And one set of backups taken home. Unfortunately, one of our secretaries didn't do that, and in November her hard drive went down. Since she had all the information on hard copies, the computer was replaced and she re-entered all of the data, ... a big head-ache.
Rove "ain't" no computer genius if he thinks he can delete 5 million emails. "They're there; and we are going to find them." Hmm? Wonder who said that?
