There is a move on to increase renewable energy vehicles, which is long overdue. However, the move being presented is for hybrids which need to be plugged in, thus burdening the electric utilities even more than they already are. Also, this would simply shift the usage of oil from individuals to the utilities, thus the consumer would not save as the utility would merely pass the increased cost on to the consumer, hence the consumer would still be paying for oil, and could still be accused of being addicted (a tag, given by the corporate media propagandists as well as the politicians, but give me a choice and you will see how "addicted" I am).
Heck, they just flew an airplane for 26 hours using solar power. It even completed the flight with more energy than before it started!
Why, other than the tight grip the oil industry has on our politicians, do we have to go a route that includes oil? Toyota, for one, has been using a non-plug in in their hybrid vehicles for several years. Basically, the battery recharges every time the vehicle coasts and brakes no plug in, no gasoline needed. It would seem that advancing that technology would be more efficient and more environmentally sound.
Isn't it time we start having decisions made using common sense rather than lobby dollars?
