Duncan Hunter should endorse Ron Paul as the only real Constitutional conservative in the field.
Tonight is a powerful night for the Ron Paul campaign. In spite of a fifth place finish in South Carolina (ahead of Rudy Giuliani once again), Congressman Paul managed to win silver in Nevada ahead of John McCain and Huckabee. McCain edged out a win in South Carolina, but he has some angry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaTNN09ocgM">Vietnam vets to face.
But something else has happened. A GOP race that has remained and will remain an open race to the convention just lost one of its seven lingering contenders: California Representative Duncan Hunter.
According to the Washington Post, Mr. Hunter "dropped out of the Republican presidential race after placing near the bottom of the pack in Nevada's voting and even before the polls closed in South Carolina's primary."
Most MSM pundits will soon predict that Ron Paul must follow. But is that true?
Ron Paul has already garnered $1.3 million in this quarter alone. In contrast, Giuliani's top staffers are going without pay due to low cash reserves. Huckabee's money is nowhere near Romney's self-funded campaign and donations will slow some after his lackluster second place finish in the evangelical stronghold of South Carolina. Just how much money can Romney lend himself before he looks under-funded? The ghost of John McCain has certainly revived from the dead to capture some early primary states - but this is not a sprint, it's a marathon.
Meantime, Ron Paul's supporters are setting up a massive money bomb on January 21st in honor of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. News anchors everywhere will burst out in hives wondering how then can continue to slander Congressman Paul as a racist while watching the money flow in honor of MLK. How many KKK do you think would give money on that day? Now that it's been proven that the Giuliani-stricken New Republic and we-leave-out-the-facts CNN took Ron Paul's decades-old newsletters completely out of context.
So where does this leave us? We have narrowed the GOP down to six. "Long-shot" Ron Paul will become "Long Haul" Ron Paul in two days. Giuliani will barely lose Florida to McCain and will have lots of explaining to do, especially to his unpaid staff. Romney will split more states with McCain keeping the GOP race wide open. Thompson will gracefully (I hope) go silent into that good night after Super Tuesday. McCain will continue to win states in spite of not-so stellar fundraising and lower GOP turnout than the 2000 primaries.
But what about Duncan Hunter? Will he endorse anyone?
I don't know. I sincerely hope he doesn't follow Tom Tancredo's footsteps and endorse Romney, who effectively used a spin charm called "Wingardium Leviosa" to make himself sound harsher on immigrants than Tancredo himself. Is that even possible?
Ron Paul draws supporters from both sides of the immigration debate. I for one am a left-leaning civil libertarian and do not agree with Tancredo's measures or rhetoric. In fact, Tancredo openly demanded that Ron Paul denounce my critique of the Minutemen when I wrote an open letter to Hispanics to support Ron Paul on LewRockwell.com.
But that was Tancredo, this is Duncan Hunter.
The Ron Paul Revolution should respectfully ask Duncan Hunter to endorse Ron Paul as the only real Constitutional conservative in the field.
Ron Paul has committed himself to secure the borders and properly assist the Border Patrol. He has targeted the Welfare State as the bigger problem in the immigration issue. His argument is so persuasive that Minutemen in Iowa and South Carolina have openly endorsed Ron Paul, as well as "Citizens for Tom Tancredo" groups.
So why not pro-Minuteman Duncan Hunter?
Even Cal Thomas stated in an opinion piece that Ron Paul is the only candidate acting like a real Republican.
Ron Paul earned the nickname "The Taxpayer's Best Friend". He has consistently voted "no" on unbalanced budgets, on presidential over-reaching of power and unconstitutional military adventures. Ron Paul is pro-life and respects states' rights. He is a strict constitutionalist. He supports the right of citizens to defend themselves with weapons. He is a Christian man who believes that persuasion not "might makes right" is the best principle for our Republic.
Ron Paul supporters should show the "LOVE" in Revolution and send Duncan Hunter letters of thank you for participating in our democratic process, express outrage at the MSM shutting him out of the debates and urge him to support and endorse the best and only conservative candidate that willbeat nation-building Hillary Clinton: ten-term Congressman Ron Paul.
